Who We Are
The Quiet Draft is an independent long-form blog focused on urban planning, infrastructure policy, and the city as lived experience in India. It is operated by an individual editor and writer.

02 · Data Collection
What Data We Collect
We collect only the data necessary to operate this blog and serve our readers. This includes:
- Email address and name — when you voluntarily subscribe to the Deep Reads newsletter or sign up for updates.
- IP address and browser data — automatically collected by our analytics provider (Google Analytics) when you visit any page.
- Pages visited, time on page, referral source — collected anonymously via Google Analytics to understand readership.
- GitHub account information — if you comment via Giscus, your public GitHub profile is used to identify your comment.
- Email correspondence — if you email us directly, we retain that correspondence.
We do not collect payment information, phone numbers, or any sensitive personal data. We do not sell your data to any third party.

How We Use Your Data
Your data is used solely for the following purposes:
- Sending you issues, essays, and updates you have subscribed to.
- Understanding how readers engage with content so we can improve it.
- Responding to emails and enquiries.
- Moderating comments to maintain a respectful discussion environment.
- Meeting legal obligations under applicable Indian and international law.
We will never use your email to send unsolicited commercial messages, share it with advertisers, or transfer it to a third party without your explicit consent.

Analytics & Cookies
This website uses Google Analytics to track visitor behaviour — including pages visited, session duration, device type, and geographic location (at city level). This data is aggregated and anonymised; we do not see your individual identity.

We may also use privacy-first analytics tools (such as Umami or Plausible) in the future, which collect no personal data and set no cookies.

Email & Newsletter Subscriptions
When you subscribe to The Quiet Draft's Deep Reads newsletter, your name and email address are stored with our email service provider (currently Mailchimp or Brevo). These providers are GDPR-compliant and do not use your data for their own marketing.
You may unsubscribe from any email at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every newsletter, or by emailing us directly at thequietdraft.admin@gmail.com.
Upon unsubscription, your email address will be removed from our active list within 7 days.

Comments
Comments on The Quiet Draft are powered by Giscus, which uses GitHub Discussions. To comment, you must have a GitHub account. Your public GitHub username and profile picture will appear alongside your comment.
Comments are moderated. We reserve the right to remove comments that are spam, abusive, off-topic, or in violation of these terms. Repeated violations may result in a block from commenting.
Your comment data (text, GitHub handle, timestamp) is stored on GitHub's servers and governed by GitHub's Privacy Policy.

Advertising
The Quiet Draft may display advertisements via Google AdSense in the future. AdSense uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ad Settings.
Any advertisements displayed are clearly labelled. We do not accept sponsored content that is presented as editorial writing. Advertising does not influence the editorial independence of The Quiet Draft.

- Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Deletion — request that we delete your personal data.

India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023
The Quiet Draft complies with the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023 of India. Under this Act:
- We process your personal data only with your free, specific, informed, and unconditional consent.
- We collect only the minimum data necessary for the stated purpose (data minimisation).
- We do not retain personal data beyond the period necessary for its stated purpose.
- You have the right to nominate another individual to exercise your data rights on your behalf.
- You have the right to raise a grievance with us, and if unresolved, to the Data Protection Board of India once constituted.
The DPDP Act is India's primary data protection legislation. It applies to processing of digital personal data within India and to processing outside India where goods or services are offered to individuals in India.
